DVD over the years has become the first choice among the world’s population to view movies, we buy them to have in our collection for immediate retrieval at anytime, quite common today is the dvd writer that has become part of the vast majority of computers in peoples homes, these are being used as a means to hold edited movies and photo slideshows, then there is the standalone DVD recorder that can be used to record our favourite TV programs as well as on-the-fly camcorder footage. There is no doubt about it in this modern day and age, the DVD is the most popular format at the moment.

However one has to ask themselves I wonder how long the DVD I use will continue to work without something happening to it ? Imagine all the years you have built up a DVD collection to finally find out years down the line, that you have no backup of your nostalgic moments, no chance of ever seeing your most treasured memories again. A frustrating thought hey ! Well thanks to a company headquartered in California USA “Miraizon”, they have managed to produce a software application for Mac and Windows that has the ability to extract movies from a DVD with considerable precision, the name of this product is “Cinematize Pro” and now it is in it's second version.

Miraizon’s flagship product I found was versatile, feature packed, easy to use, and performs at exceptional speed, and when you consider this sort of observation what more can you ask for.

Let’s consider some of the capabilities of this application :

With Cinematize 2 Pro you can extract menu items and movie footage. If you need to export several chapters or specific points off a DVD, you simply define them by setting start and end points and then add them to the segments lists to convert the batch chosen. There are several other options for instance you can extract subtitles which exist on a dvd as an image overlay. Also you can extract audio with a great deal of control you can split out multiple audio streams for working with Dolby AC-3 channels, synchronisation of audio and video streams is possible by offsetting the video to match the audio, or offsetting and trimming so the audio and video tracks match up exactly in a video editor like for instance Apple’s Final Cut Pro or Express. I think it’s important to bear in mind though that this sort of program should be used very carefully taking into consideration the copyright laws, and the legislation that applies to the country to which you live in, ultimately this can be used only on unencrypted DVD’s.

In conclusion I have to say that I have not used a better product to perform this sort of task, it is easy to use, quick, and provides a variety of customisations that enables me as a video editor to re-enter the footage as part of another project or use it to export to other devices or formats, I can also use this for streaming on the web or downloading. I tested this application on a Apple Mac Book Pro 2.33 GHZ / 2 Gigs of Ram and found this to be the best application I have ever used to do this sort of thing.

Well done Miraizon.
