Nowadays it’s all about HD/Blu-ray and Ulead brings access to this technology to your finger tips!
Using DVD Factory you can capture and author your own DVD’s or BD’s (Blu-ray Discs) as well as SVCD & VCD’s. But we’re not here to discuss the technology or decide if HD is better than Blu-ray – no – what you want to know is how easy it is to create your own discs!
Once installed (took me a nearly 25 mins!) you can start up the software, I found it to be easy to navigate with a very polished finish from the get go. Corel have made it easy to go through adding and editing your media step by step and have also accompanied this with a comprehensive help guide (also there is now a flash tutorial available on the Ulead site).
Once you’ve loaded the clip, from an external device, a video already on your hard drive or if you wish a selection of photos, or even a selection of them all, you can edit the timeline, chop, trim and change how your disc will be presented, select how you wish to separate your chapters and of course watch it all before you finalise your project. Now I am no video editing expert, far from it, but I have to say this program captivated me for hours!
It just makes it so fun, you have so many different ways to put things together and edit your disc you’re almost spoilt for choice! My favorite feature has to be the Menu templates that come with the package; you can achieve some very professional results with the least of effort, and impress or bore your friends and family with your efforts for hours! Along with this you can add music to the background of your menu as well as your picture slide shows.
Once you’ve done all the work just click on the little printer icon at the bottom of the screen and a simple disc label program will start based on the current project with nice touches such as the ability to add DVD logos etc. Corel again keeps it all very simple and is again extremely user friendly.
All in all I found that you can spend as much or as little time as you want editing, cropping, scaling, tweening etc etc and end up with a very satisfactory result. You can download a free trial version to see for yourself and help you decide before you buy!
The bonus software is also good to have, DVD copy 5 allows you to Shrink dual-layer DVDs on to one single-layer disc and burn any video format to disc, I found it very stable and reliable. WinDVD8 Player is again a good DVD player with all the usual additions that you need and will play all your standard video files and discs.
