This is an entertaining little program and an interesting alternative to photo albums. I must say I like both systems but it makes a nice change not lugging heavy hard backed books around. Sometimes, sitting through colleagues wedding or holiday photos can be a daunting task especially when not only do you not know anyone in the picture, you’re hardly likely to meet them either. Magix Xtreme Photo Story Deluxe 7 has some excellent effects which will keep your friends entertained while watching your endless snaps. Just import your pictures by clicking on ‘my media’, you must load the pictures you want to use in your slide-show to your ‘My Pictures’ folder on your PC otherwise Magix doesn’t see them (Magix will resize the photos if necessary). Transfer them to the story-board either individually or you can drag and drop a whole file and Magix will lay them out. Shuffle them in to your preferred order and they are ready to burn. As you might expect, this is only the tip of the iceberg, Extreme Photo Story7 brings you such a host of effects that you may never use a hard backed photo album again. It’s pretty simple to use too. Once your pictures are in the order you want them most of the effects can be added individually to each slide.  Just click on FX, rotate or ‘T’ for text at the top of each slide to add whatever effect you choose. You can set the amount of time you want each photograph to linger individually by clicking on the time indication at the bottom of each slide or there is the option to ‘apply to all’ giving each slide the same amount of time. Like when editing video there are endless transitions for you to choose from as to how your pictures and titles enter the screen. spinning, twirling, jumping , enter from left, enter from right, high, low the choice is endless,  fade in, fade out, picture on picture, page curl, blinds,  the list goes on but makes for some interesting viewing.  Add music from the generous amount supplied or import your own.

You can also turn your photos into a mini movie show. There are lots of animated effects and intros to choose from, i.e. ‘Love Story’, ‘3D living room’ ‘Winter Vacation’ ‘Chill-out’  there are just too many to mention and they certainly liven up or romanticize your slide show,  especially when they drop in little animated effects over your photos throughout the show. If you decide against the mini movie style you can choose from one of a variety of delightfully themed menu templates that are included, customize this with your own text then within the program you can burn your slideshow to DVD/CD, save to your PC or up load to the internet.

The manual isn’t brilliant, a total of thirty two pages of which twenty two tells you what the program can do but only ten pages on how to do it. Still, once you’ve stared at the interface long enough you’ll soon be motoring.

As with most of Magix software you can be part of an on-line community to pick-up tips, chit chat to other users or visit the Magix on-line library for more graphics or effects to download. If you demand high standards from your slide-shows then this unique little program could be just what you are looking for.
