Vertical Moon’s newest release is called Juke It. It fills the need for those of us who are musicians who need to promote our work on the web, and sometimes creating a .swf player for one track is simply not enough. It makes more sense to be able to place multiple tracks into one media player, resembling a juke box. Listeners can be in one web page previewing musical pieces in one player.

Looking into this option elsewhere reveals that it can be a complicated process to create such a feature. This is where Vertical Moon’s “Juke It” comes in. If you have used their products before then you will quickly realise that it is a matter of following their prompts in the wizard and then exporting, this will then produce a series of .swf files for each individual music entry as well as a .swf file for the player. This will then be accompanied by an XML file.

Displaying the player in your HTML page

How to display your jukebox player in your web pages will depend on how you wish to structure your files on your site. First you will need all of the files outputted from Juke-It. If the files are not already on your website, you will need to copy over the entire folder that holds your jukebox files. The easiest solution to display the jukebox player is to place the html page that will be displaying the jukebox player, into the same folder as the jukebox files. Then you would just display the jukebox .swf file as you would any other .swf file without any further modifications, and it should load everything ok, (playlist, audio tracks, etc.).

Here are the features outlined :

• Output Macromedia Flash movie files (SWF). Over 97% of all browsers already have the Flash Player installed, so you won't have to worry about your audience being able to hear your audio.

• Publish your audio as SWF or FLV.

• Supports audio formats: .aiff, .mp3, .wav

• Select your audio compression quality.

• Add customisable jukebox players to add playback controls, sound controls, scrub bars, and more.

• Set the playlist to play sequentially, shuffle/random, looping, play on start, and automatically play the next track.

• Save project files so you can save your work to allow you to make changes over time.

In conclusion, there is no doubt about it, “Juke It” takes the hassle out of building media players to promote your audio and musical works for the web. It guides you every step of the way and I am pleased to be able to recommend this fine application that runs on Windows and Mac.
