Currently Filter Forge inc. is a one product Company. All their creativity, technical know how and pioneering development is centered around the one plug-in. For me, the sheer dedication and loyalty in their aim to produce an excellent, high end Photoshop plug-in has paid off because that well and truly sums up Filter Forge. Crikey those guys at Filter Forge inc. must surely see filters in their sleep with the 4700 filters they have already accumulated in their library which are free to download to ‘Filter Forge’ as and when you need them.

Not content with supplying you with a dynamic amount of filters they also give you the facilities to create your own. Now this may seem a little tricky at first but the pride you feel when you have created your very first filter can be enormously satisfying. I created my own filter, true, it wasn’t dissimilar to a bird dropping but never the less it was all my own work and my skills are improving.

Just Google ‘Filter Forge Tutorials’ and follow the instructions together with screen shots after which you’ll have a good idea as to how to achieve results.

There is a really resourceful forum on hand where you can upload your own creations and should your creation receive a high number of downloads then a financial reward is in the offing. You can swap ideas with other members or message the guys from Filter Forge inc. to sort out any problems you may have. I checked into the forum a few times and there were always  current posts to read which is a good sign.

If you don’t want to persevere with creating you own filters Filter Forge does come with some simply cracking filters which made me go green with envy when I think of the bird pooh look- a- like that I developed.

As well as being able to edit your own filters and down load from the library there are three free packs you can down load, Metals, Photo effects and frames.  Each category has seven options plus nine further options in each sub menu and believe me they are great additions to an already filter packed program.

Filter Forge supports seamless tiling, HDRI lighting (high dynamic range that captures real lighting conditions), 16 & 32 Bit Image Modes, Dual Core and Quad Core CPU support which makes a noticeable difference in rendering. Files can be saved as BMP, JPEG, TIFF, TGA, PNG, Open EXR and PFM. The latter two formats allow your work to be saved in high-precision formats using floating-point numbers to store the pixels which allows you to retain every single bit of precision.

I highly recommend a visit to the Filter Forge website
www.filterforge.com there you can see for yourself the amazing filters that come with the program plus check out the free packs and don’t forget to Google the tutorials and see the screen shots for using the visual node-based editor which lets you create your own visual effect procedural textures. Try out Filter Forge on their 30 day trial this is such a cool tool you won’t be needing the uninstall tab!
