When I was studying engineering, I was always looking for ways to help me remember my classes. Tony Buzan was one of my mentors. He presented the mind map theories stating very simply that the mind remembers things visually and that conventional, sequential note-taking does very little for the powers of recollection. This man was a visionary and had an understanding of the mind that very few had. He did a great job evangelising the theory of memory retention.

Twenty five years on, I still have my course notes clearly visualised in mind map format. When I was asked to review Mindmap 5 Professional, I had in mind my own handwritten maps and wondered if it would be easier to do them in computer format. I need not have worried as ConceptDraw Mindmap 5 Professional does an excellent job of converting thoughts to mind maps in the most painless manner possible.

ConceptDraw say you can do the following:

generate, organize and evaluate ideas, structure some information, put concepts in a clear and attractive way to persuade others

Because the process of creating mind maps takes a little getting used to, ConceptDraw have tried to simplify the process by allowing you to try the ‘Getting Started Tutorial’ or using templates – pre-existing and user created.

The tutorial is excellent and takes you through a number of possible usage scenarios such as creating a business plan, conference organisation and project planning. After using the Tutorial you will be creating your own mind maps in a few minutes.
