If you have ever sat in an airplane cockpit, the sheer number of dials, switches and gauges in front of you no doubt dazzled you. If you had to fly the plane, where would you start?

For airplane cockpit, think Adobe Photoshop CS3. This program can do so many different things, but has such a bewildering array of palettes, menu options, and layer controls it is hard to know where to start.

That is where Adobe Photoshop CS3 – CLASSROOM IN A BOOK boards the plane. This will teach how to fly this program. It does an excellent job of explaining the key feature sets such as masks, channels and layers. In addition it covers some of the main actions you will want to do, including photo corrections and preparing files for the web.

I particularly liked the nice attention to detail. For example at the end of chapter one on 'Getting to Know the Work Area', there is a comprehensive diagram detailing the various toolbox items – excellent for the beginner.

To reinforce the classroom experience, Adobe have also included a review section at the end of each chapter covering the key points learned. The accompanying CD also includes the files needed for the hands-on exercises – a nice touch. There are even some video files to guide you through some of the new and existing features of Photoshop CS3. These video files are well presented and you even get a free 24 hour pass to
Lynda.com which has a comprehensive set of on-line training materials.

After a few lessons, the Photoshop CS3 cockpit experience will seem much more comfortable and less daunting.

Photoshop CS3 is the acknowledge master of photo-editing programs. If you are a beginner or a even a regular user, reading Adobe Photoshop CS3 – CLASSROOM IN A BOOK is an excellent way to learn how to use the program effectively. Recommended.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 is an excellent program largely because it covers the basic elements of digital image editing in such a simple way. Think Bill Bryson does Einstein.

For those who want to go a little further however, the sheer range of features can seem quite daunting. To get the best from this program you can do no better than purchase Adobe Photoshop Elements 6
CLASSROOM IN A BOOK. I have been a fan of the CLASSROOM IN A BOOK series for a long time because it teaches you how to use the programs in real life settings, not concentrating just on features.

The book is well organised and covers the key aspects a beginner needs to know. It starts with the basics of how to use the program, proceeds to organising photos, fixing exposure problems repairing images and even takes you through advanced editing techniques.

A nice angle is the review section at the end of each chapter – just like a real classroom.  There is even an accompanying CD which features the photographs from each of the lessons making the whole learning experience more realistic.

I would have liked some video lessons on the CD. Additionally, there are some strange omissions such as how to convert to black and white. However, these are minor gripes. If you took a one-day course on Elements it would set you back at least £200. This book lists at £28.99 and is the best investment you will make if you want to get the best from this excellent program.

So Adobe have done it again. Not only do they make the best photo editing programs, but they also make the best learning materials. With the Adobe Photoshop Elements - CLASSROOM IN A BOOK, you can be your own best teacher.

Classroom In A Book publications have earned a respected name for themselves when it comes to teaching Adobe applications, after all these are official training publications from Adobe Systems themselves. Adobe Illustrator CS3 edition is presented in a colourful and clear format so the reader can soak up the information presented. It should be noted that before purchasing one of these books that one would have a working knowledge of their computer and its operating system.

After plowing through the vast contents pages you will see three sections before you start reading the first chapters. The first is ”Getting Started” followed by “What’s New” and the “Quick Tour” these are well worth familiarising yourself with. In the “Quick Tour” you will see exercises that will help you in getting used to the new functions of the program. The CD-ROM provided will also enhance your understanding of the various exercises presented. Additionally it is nice to see also that training videos from Lynda.com and Total Training are included so you can visually see how an expert demonstrates a project task, at a pace that a newcomer or intermediate can cope with.

Conclusively this publication is presented in a clear, concise and logical way, it comes complete with tutorial videos and resources for each lesson, this should inspire any student of web design or desktop publishing to give this a try. Furthermore it is also designed for the advanced user as their are lessons and techniques that go beyond the basics, there is no doubt that this will make a valuable addition to an Adobe users library for referencing and brushing up on forgotten tasks. Don’t take my work for it, try it yourself.

The publication is beautifully illustrated and clearly laid out, thus avoiding unnecessary clutter on the page meaning that you will quickly focus on the assailant points presented.

I personally enjoyed using this publication to brush up in certain areas that I perhaps forgotten about, so this publication will make an excellent reference aid for future usage.
