One of
my favourite Internet sites was Pandora. You
searched for a piece of music you liked in whatever
genre and it would try to not only find the piece
of music you selected, but also offer similar
alternatives. It used something called the music
genome project which attempted to find similar
music based on the characteristics of the music and
not just metadata. Alas, due to copyright reasons,
Pandora is now only available in the US.
However, Magix MP3 Maker 14, uses a similar technique to search all your local music files and generate playlists based on a selected piece of music. Magix call this technique Mufin Vision and it is based on work done at the world-famous Fraunhofer Institute. The good news is that it works fantastically well and is one reason alone for buying this product. The even better news is that it searches for similar music on the Internet as well. Goodbye Pandora, welcome Magix.
So what else does the program do? Well it does audio conversion to MP3, OGG VORBIS, WAV, WMA (MS Audio) as well as (after archiving) AAC and MP3 pro files.
It does direct CD burning of songs and playlists and download to portable MP3 players. Re-editing of your songs is simple allowing volume adjustments, cleaning effects and mastering effects. For budding DJs there is even a DJ console which switches music to the headphones without using the control panel. And for those avid Internet radio station listeners there is a list of over 4000 stations easily accessed via the Web Radio button. You can easily record these stations too with clever recording options including the date, time and duration.
In conclusion then, I liked this program very much. Yes, Magix MP3 Maker is your one stop shop for all things audio. Excellent.
