Cleaning Lab 12 Deluxe continues to offer
outstanding features regarding audio enhancement, I
have been a user of this windows application for
quite some time now, and I certainly have not been
disappointment with this new upgrade. The first
thing I notice is a slight change of interface,
which has been clearly designed to make a
simplistic approach to tweaking and enhancing
audio, the icons are clearly displayed and
logically laid out, meaning that you are not
squinting your eye to see what you are going to do
next, as can be the case in more higher price
applications. The first thing I did was introduce a
voice over wav file into this application, and to
my surprise there was a button toward the bottom of
the workspace especially designed for voice over
audio recordings, before I started to tweak this
narration style recording, I decided to explore the
voice over button feature, so on pressing the
button I was presented with a dialogue box, the
options presented were easy to understand and use,
it allowed you to specify whether you wanted
background music on track one or track two, there
were sliders that allowed you to control the volume
of the voice over in contrast to the background
music on the other track. A great feature for video
editors. The rest of the commands inside speak for
them self.
For the benefit of newcomers to this program, Magix always make the software easy to use but with a powerhouse of features, when you load up the application the workspace becomes very clear straightaway, as it is split up into three main sections, Import / Cleaning / Exporting. When you select a section there are buttons that clearly indicate what you need to do, with the exception of the “Cleaning” feature which will be covered in just a moment.
For example lets take the import section, at the bottom of the workspace there are three buttons, Import Audio / Record Audio / Import CD. Following the wizard guide really helps you to achieve what you set out to do.
Where the true power lies is in the “Cleaning Section” where you have numerous options, that allow you to widen the stereo, EQ the recording, apply filters, and erase clicks, hisses and pops and many other flaws in a bad recording, What I like about this software program is the amazing amount of presets and if that is not enough then you have the advanced button that expands into a hardware style window where you can move knobs and press buttons just like you would in real life hardware units, the results to me are very satisfactory. However I would like to point out that very often the presets have the best effect and are a great time saver too.
